U9-U12 | Junior Team Allocations

U9-U12 | Junior Team Allocations

Mini Football is for players in grades U9-U12 (2014 to 2011 born). Junior players are allocated into teams at the start of the season.

In U9 & U10, we do not have any trials and players are placed in teams with their friends.

In U11 & U12, players can choose to play competitively (in a selected 1919 team) or socially (with friends).

Teams play games on Saturday mornings at various grounds throughout the Wellington region. Stop Out team trainings will take place during the week.

1919 or social

Players in U11 & U12 can opt to trial for a 1919 team by attending an open training session, or they can choose to play socially.

Social: Players who choose this option will be placed into teams with friends or with children from the same school. The main focus for these teams is fun and building better connections. As always, there will be opportunities for learning and development along the way.

1919: These teams train and play as part of the 1919 programme, where standards are raised including a higher level of commitment with 2x training per week, and a higher expected level of behaviour.

  • U11 & U12 trials are optional. Players who choose not to trial or do not make a 1919 team will be placed into a social team.

Players who wish to be a part of a 1919 team must attend team allocation days. These are open sessions run by Stop Out coaches who will observe the players. There are two opportunities to attend an allocation day.

Training

The format of your child’s training is dependent on whether they play in a 1919 team or a non-graded team.

Team trainings begin week commencing 18 April.

1919 Teams

1919 teams train within the 1919 programme. This programme is Stop Out’s high-performance programme, it’s player centred and provides a challenging environment for players to push themselves.

1919 teams train twice a week on a Monday & Wednesday at Hutt Park. Trainings are delivered by allocated club coaches.

Social Teams

Social teams train once a week at Hutt Park. These trainings will be led by parent/volunteer coaches from each team.

Stop Out will assist parent/volunteer coaches by:

  • Assisting with community coaching course fees.
  • Circulating useful coaching resources.
  • Providing feedback & advice for sessions.

Gear & Kit

Players will need to purchase their own:

Coaching & Managing

Stop Out is driven by the community. Our aim is to provide a fun and positive environment for all our players. We cannot achieve this without the support from our community. The more support, positivity, and involvement from parents & volunteers, the better!

Coach

Coaching a team is such a rewarding experience. To provide opportunities for players to play and see the smiles on their faces… you can’t beat it! If you are interested in coaching a team, please reach out!

Each team needs a coach to:

Be responsible for the team’s gear bag (bibs cones and balls). These can be taken home with the coach or placed in the Stop Out garage after training.
Deliver sessions once a week and lead on a matchday.

Managing

A manager is a team’s point of contact for any information. Managers ensure everyone knows when and where the match is each weekend and communicates with the coach about players’ availability for the weekend.

These two roles can be done by one person if they choose to.
